2012 Chevrolet Sonic to Raise Subcompact Bar
Motorists on the lookout for a new subcompact family car are set to be somewhat spoilt for choice this fall, with recent arrivals such as the Mazda 2, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Accent, Fiat 500 and several others all upping the standards of functionality, features and fun. Needless to say, the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down and the small car is no longer seen as just a basic means of transportation.
Enter therefore the latest addition to a growing arsenal of superb subcompacts re-writing the rule book across the board – the new 2012 Chevrolet Sonic.
Set to be made available for sale in October, the new 2012 Sonic will be offered in both a four door sedan version and a four door hatchback. There will also be a total of three trim levels, those being the LS, the LT and the LTZ. Prices are set to begin at $14,495 for the LS sedan and $15,495 for the hatchback. The standard set up is to include the 1.8 liter engine from the Chevy Cruze, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox.
All in all, the new Sonic has distanced itself significantly from the somewhat low-end Aveo it is replacing, which by comparison gives all new meaning to the phrase ‘new and improved.’ However, will all the new refinements and adornments be enough to compete with such a competitive and growing market?
The jury is out but ultimately it will be he consumer who decides.
