2012 Chevy Sonic Sets New Standard for Subcompacts
Subcompact vehicles are enjoying something of a renaissance in the US, as consumers in droves continue looking for more fuel-efficient options to combat excessive gas prices. Industry experts have widely predicted that this particular area of the market could grow by up to 30% during the next four years alone, and it appear Chevrolet has every intention of being well and truly in on the action.
In this example, the hopes of GM are pinned on the newest entry to the smaller vehicle market, the brand new 2012 Chevy Sonic.
The new Sonic arrives as either a four door sedan or five door hatch, marking the point at which Chevy has finally caught up with the competition on fuel economy. Marketers are aiming the car directly at those looking for frugal consumption and fun to drive dynamics, generally around the 25 to 35 year old bracket.
Prices for the 2012 Chevy Sonic begin at $14,495 for the basic LS sedan version, though even the base model includes a wide range of extras including keyless entry, Bluetooth and traction control.
Engine response and handling are both particularly impressive for such a vehicle, with interior design that is both roomy and attractive. The only disappointment is the overuse in some areas of rather dull plastics, but this is nit-picking to say the least on what is otherwise a truly impressive offering from GM.
