According to the latest data released by Nissan, sales of the new Versa sedan reached 8.566 units for the month of August.

As it stands, such a figure surpasses many of the similar models being offered by the competition, including the Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent, Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta and Mazda 2.

According to the vice president of Nissan for the USA, the 2011 Versa was already the market leader for the subcompact category for the year so far, therefore the 2012 model was introduced with a great head start. It was also pointed out that sales for August showed an increase of 15% over those of last year.

Marketing for the 2012 Verso has been focusing primarily on what the vehicle offers drivers by way of legroom, headroom, storage space and general across the board enhancements. Furthermore, the starting price of the entry-level Versa is also said to be the lowest in its class, despite offering superior backseat legroom to the E-Class Mercedes and BMW 5-Series.

The 2012 Versa is also officially rated as delivering 30 MPG for city driving and 38 MPG on highways, which amounts to a combined fuel economy rating of 33 MPG.
