2012 Toyota Camry – Ticks All the Boxes and Then Some
For some people, cars are some of the deepest and most emotionally charged purchases they will ever make. For others, they mean about as much as replacing an old wardrobe – that being essentially something that just ticks all of the right boxes. In the case of the latter, all that really matters is purchase price, fuel economy, safety, insurance rates and maybe a degree of resale value.
So, with numbers and boxes ticked in mind, it is worth noting that for 13 of the past 14 years, the Toyota Camry has maintained the lead as biggest selling passenger car of any in the US. Since launching back in 1983, American motorists have bought no less than 9.7 million of them in total, adding to a global tally of 15 million. Furthermore, of all Carmrys bought in the past 15 years, 90% are known to still be on the road and going strong.
Impressive to say the least and certainly contradicts the rather skeptical claims of the Camry being nothing other than a bland and dated concept.
Better still, the base model of the 2012 Toyota Camry is now $200 less than that of last year, with a whole host of added equipment thrown in, including an additional four airbags, a large LCD display for the entertainment system and a highly impressive interior. Base models now begin from $22,700, while the higher-end XLE model has also been reduced to $33,300.
All in all, the 2012 Toyota Camry is affordable, luxurious, competitive, fuel-frugal and drives like a dream, therefore if it is strictly a box-ticking by-numbers game once again, expect another decade or so with the Camry right at the top of the pecking order.
