2012 Toyota Camry Almost Toppled by the Nissan Altima – 20th Anniversary Package Created to Celebrate
Nissan came closed that ever before to topping overall sales of the Toyota Camry, missing out on the top spot with the Nissan Altima by just 205 units for October. This particular crown has of course been all-but dominated by the Camry over recent years, with the Honda Accord and For Taurus both enjoying their own time in the spotlight before that.
With the introduction of the new 2012 Toyota Camry and the end of the problems and supply shortages originating from the earthquake and tsunami earlier this year, Nissan may have just fallen short of its greatest chance ever to outsell the Camry. That being said however, coming in ahead of the Honda Accord, Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata is a feat to be proud of in its own right.
To celebrate the accomplishment, Nissan is to offer a 20th anniversary package for the Altima, which will include limited edition badging, fog lights, 16 inch alloys, spoiler, leather coated steering wheel and Bluetooth for $950 – which amounts to a $900 reduction.
As it stands, the Toyota Camry has been the nation’s favorite for more years than most would care to remember, offering an overall package that seems to have hit the nail on the head for exactly what the average US motorist is looking for. Often dubbed the ‘white good’ of the automotive world, it is widely expected that the Camry will continue to retain the top spot, with each year’s evolution offering just enough to keep interest peaked and reverence at truly astonishing levels.
