Toyota has been dominating the electric vehicle market for years with its reliable Prius line of vehicles. Now there are two new cars in the family, the Prius v hatchback and the Prius Plug-in which is a sedan.
The hatchback Prius v has a reasonable price tag compared to some other hybrid vehicles on the market with a starting price tag of $27,160. The base model care comes with a built-in LCD screen about the size of a Kindle, a remote controlled entry system and Bluetooth for those who want to connect to the entertainment system wirelessly.
Additional features like GPS take the price up another $800 and to get luxury details like heated seats, nicer wheels and headlights, and special seat coverings adds almost another $3000. The car is a bit bigger overall than the sedan it is based on and a couple of thousand more expensive. It does have more room inside.
The Prius Plug-in is pricier still with the base model at $32,760 which includes a lot of nice-to-have’s like heated seats, remote a/c and keyless entry. The fully kitted Plug-in takes the price up to $40,285 and adds some luxury features.
The Prius v hatchback gets 42 mpg because it is a little bigger than the Prius v which was rated at 50 mpg. The Prius Plug-in surprisingly gets 87 mpg even though its “electricity only” limit is only 15 miles. Charging the battery takes 3 hours with a standard 110v outlet.
