Amazon Boosts Kindle Fire Orders – iPad and iPad 2 Sales Likely to Suffer
Amazon seems to have reason to believe that their upcoming Kindle Fire table will be an even hotter seller than even they originally thought. The online retail giant recently upped production orders of the Kindle Fire tablet to a total of 5 million to be delivered before the close of November 2011, according to key industry sources. Increases in order volumes have already been reported once before, when the total was raised from 3.5 million to 4 million.
Indeed, this may seem like something of a rather overconfident move given the fact that not a single device has yet made it into the hands of the consumer, though leading analysts has estimated that Amazon sold at least 100,000 units by preorder on the very first day the service came about, with 20,000+ units selling every day for at least the next six.
The new Kindle Fire, which is set to begin shipping next Monday, will mark the very first attempt by Amazon to move into the tablet PC market, which of course is currently the stomping ground for Apple’s iPad and iPad 2. However, what makes the Kindle Fire different is the fact that the $199 price tag has led many to believe that this will well and truly prove the first real competitor, in light of the $500+ most similar devices currently demand across the board.
Whether or not the Kindle Fire takes the lead remains to be seen, though there is little doubting the fact that it will certainly put a rather large dent in sales of the iPad over the Christmas buying period.
