Amazon Kindle Fire: A Threat to iPad’s Market Share?
Believe it or not, the Apple iPad may have a formidable threat in its midst – the much lower-priced Kindle Fire made by Amazon. If analysts are to be believed, the Kindle Fire just might have eaten into the iPad’s share of the market, somewhere to the tune of one to two million units.
There is one primary reason behind the Kindle Fire’s rise in popularity and that is the unit’s very affordable price. At a basic price of $199, the Kindle Fire costs three hundred dollars less than the most basic iPad 2.
While the iPad 2 has a bigger display, Amazon’s product has its share of supporters who prefer its compact size and easy access to Amazon services. For these consumers, the Kindle Fire gives them great “bang for their buck” through a high-quality, low-cost tablet.
In addition, much has been said about Apple’s recent announcement about an event to be held at the end of January. However, this has nothing to do with rumors regarding the iPad 3. The event to be hosted by Apple shall tackle issues related to the iOS 5’s magazine subscription feature.
Since the Kindle Fire traces its origins to the basic Kindle e-reader, this event is at least connected in some way to its improving sales figures.
Nonetheless, Apple remains the leader in the tablet computer race thanks to the iPad. Apple may still be ruling the roost, but additional competitors may step up to the plate in 2012. In particular, Google is rumored to be releasing their answer to the iPad some time in the second quarter of this year.
