Perhaps the biggest news in the technology world this week is that of the Amazon Kindle Fire finally making its way into the hands of eager buyers, following weeks of incredible hype. The new $199 tablet PC has been widely pegged as the first real threat to the sovereignty of the iPad for Apple, not to mention the large number of rather modest competitors gracing the Android camp.
Of course, those able to splash out rather large sums of money on a tablet PC without so much as batting an eyelid will indeed continue flocking toward the Apple range, but for the rest of us, which in fact accounts for the vast majority, the tablet PC world has just been blown wide open.
