Amazon Offering Trade-in Incentive to Further Sweeten Kindle Fire Deal
For those who may have found themselves reluctant to upgrade to the new Amazon Kindle Fire in light of their current e-reader still functioning just fine, the online retail giant has just launched a new initiative likely to spur a variable frenzy of new interest. Ahead of the upcoming November 15 shipping date for the Kindle Fire, Amazon is offering anywhere between $28 and $135 in store credit for those choosing to trade in their current Kindle models.
For example, the Original Kindle which originally shipped for $399 will earn $28.25 in online store credit. Second generation Kindle Keyboard 3G units with Wi-Fi were originally $189 and will bring $38 in store credit. The former top-of-the-line Amazon Kindle DX which sold for $379 will earn $135 in store credit.
Of course, while Amazon has made no direct connection between the initiative and their new flagship product, it is pretty much clear to anyone that the move is geared toward shipping as many 7 inch Kindle Fire tablet PCs as possible. The highly anticipated device is rumored to actually be costing Amazon $10 for each unit sold, but given its direct hookups to a number of online portals for rentals and purchases, its popularity could prove something of a quite colossal cash cow.
Not that the device itself really requires any further justification as a bargain, as the Kindle Fire packs a dual core processor, 8GB of onboard storage, full color 7 inch multi-touch screen and Wi-Fi functionality – all with a retail price of just $199. Needless to say, the stage is well and truly set for the tablet PC battle of the year, as Amazon prepares to attempt what so many have failed at before…taking the crown from the Apple iPad 2 once and for all.
