amazon kindle fire 1 300x205 Amazon Orders 5 Million Kindle Fire Tablets – Barnes & Nobel Nook Tablet Ready to CompeteAmazon’s highly anticipated and already legendary Kindle Fire tablet arrives next week, sporting looks identical to the BlackBerry PlayBok from RIM and carrying a price tag of just $199. Needless to say, the only thing likely to be as large as the hype is the expected sales volume, with Amazon having recently upped their orders of the Kindle Fire from 3 million to 5 million by the end of the year.

Preorders are reported to have been incredibly strong since day one, where up to 100,000 units may have been purchases in less than 24 hours. The momentum has continued, spurring two quantity updates and an estimated total of 5 million on order from Amazon today.

Needless to say, if Amazon have ordered 5 million Kindle Fire tablets, they fully intend to sell that many in a short timeframe to say the least, which would put the device toward the upper end of the most optimistic estimates of analysts. Furthermore, it would also make the new Kindle the very first tablet to really capture the imagination and indeed the custom of the world, aside from the Apple iPad and iPad 3.

Indeed, even if the 5 million estimate rings true, the Kindle Fire is still likely to take a modest second place to the iPad, with Apple having sold 11.1 million iPads during the third quarter of the year alone.

Furthermore, Amazon are set to face additional competition from Barnes & Nobel by way of their new Nook Tablet, which is almost identical looking to the Nook Color and packs very similar features to the Kindle Fire, all for a $249 price tag.

Both tablets allow users to enjoy about 80% of what is possible with the iPad and are backed by two of the biggest names in the business, therefore both are destined for true greatness and an epic holiday buying period.
