Apple’s iOS Market Share Grows to Over 60% with iOS 5
iOS has reached new record high usage levels for October, accounting for no less than a 60% share of all tablet/mobile technology web traffic. Google’s Android platform on the other came in at second place with a rather modest figure of less than 20%.
The latest reports by key industry analysts states that the incredibly popular iOS platform from Apple topped out at 61.64% for the month of October, while Android lagged behind with 18.90%. On the other hand, Symbian from Nokia, BlackBerry from RIM and countless ‘other’ examples were all confined to single digits.
Apple’s increase in its iOS market share shows a significant increase from the 54% recorded in the month of September and also the 44% for October 2010, with Android proving to be the only other operating system that displayed growth in the same time periods – the all having notably declined.
Of course, October was an incredibly important month for iOS, bringing along both the release of iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S, undoubtedly resulting in an enormous spike of interest from consumers.
As such, predictions for the upcoming months indeed suggest that Apple will remain at the very tops of the ladder, but with a number of incredible Android devices expected in the near future, not to mention the release of the fourth-generation of the OS known as Ice Cream Sandwich, there is every expectation that the rival platform will see a similar jump in interest and gain a significant additional market share.
