Apple introduces their newest iPods, Apple TV and Ping
The huge success of the iPhone, especially the iPhone 4, has made sales of the iPod go down drastically. To try and fix this, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, announced their new line of iPods, Apple TV, and a social network available on iTunes that they are calling Ping at an event in San Francisco on September 1, 2010.
The line of iPods will have a brand new look. The Nano will now have a touch screen and the iPod Touch will become more like the iPhone. It will have cameras on the front and the back so that customers will be able to have FaceTime chats over Wi-Fi. All of the upgrades are expected to really step up the competition of the iPod Touch.
Jobs also announced the new and improved Apple TV. They listened to the feedback of the users of the older model and redesigned Apple TV to better fit their needs. The new box is now smaller, the users will not have to have a hard drive for the unit, and users can now see videos from YouTube and Netflix if they have a subscription. Users will now be able to rent movies for $4.99 and TV show episodes for $.99. Apple has created a more user friendly way to get videos and music straight from the internet to your TV.
Ping, which can be equated to Facebook and Twitter but mostly for music, will allow users on iTunes to follow their favorite bands and artists. Users will also be able to follow their friends and find out what kinds of music they listen to and what they are downloading. Apple realizes that they have 160 million accounts on iTunes, so why not have a way for all of those people to talk with others that share their musical interests.
