Argentina wants to renew talks over Falkland Islands

Filed under: Business,The Big Stories |

The new British government has refused Argentinian President, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s claim to renew talks over the Falkland Islands.

Sources say that Cristina Kirchner has sent a letter to new British Prime Minister, David Cameron in which she stated that „in order to keep up the two countries fruitful relations, Argentina wants to refresh talks over the sovereignity of the Falklands urgently”. The president also demanded to stop oil explorations in the territory with immediate effect.

In 1982 a war began between Argentina and Great Britain over the Falkland Islands and at the end Britain gained control over the territory. Since then Argentina claimed numerous times to  reopen discussions regarding the Falkland Islands without any result.

Head of UK Foreign Office Ministry, Jeremy Browne declared: “We have no doubt about our sovereignty over them.”

The UK announced recently that they found crude oil near the Falklands, which fact even more heated up the situation between the two countries.
