AT&T to Launch Nokia Lumia 900 for $99?
US customers may not have had a chance to try Nokia’s previous Windows Phone releases, the Lumia 710 and 800. However, with the Nokia Lumia 900 certain to be available stateside, would-be smartphone buyers are preparing for its eventual launch, especially after its successful preview at the 2012 CES.
According to rumors posted by both Boy Genius Report and CNET, customers may not have to wait much longer for the 900.
These rumors were based on a leaked roadmap from AT&T, which shall be offering the phone to the US market, and claim a March 18 release date for the Lumia 900. Furthermore, AT&T is planning to make the handset available for a shockingly low $99.99 as part of a two-year contract. This speculated price is less than half the cost of a few more popular phones, such as the Apple iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The Lumia 900, as stated above, was one of the favorites at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show. Under-the-hood specs are impressive, with a 1.4 GHz CPU by Qualcomm and 512 MB RAM. The phone features front and rear cameras capable of 8 megapixel and 1.3 megapixel resolution respectively. Also, the handset will come with 16 GB internal storage space.
As expected, AT&T chose not to corroborate these rumors. This means it’s another case of wait-and-see for tech geeks across America. If the rumors are accurate, the low price just might help Nokia and Microsoft gain some ground with the Windows Phone, which has long lagged behind iOS and Android-powered phones in terms of market share.
