Big showdowns are expected in this years NBA playoffs
As Phoenix Suns surprisingly sweeped the San Antonio Spurs in Western Conference semi-finals they can rest almost one week before facing with Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in conference finals. In the Eastern Conference Orlando is currently waiting for his opponent from the Cleveland-Boston matchup, where the Celtics took the lead (3-2) in the series winning over the Cavs last night in Cleveland.
In the first round of this years NBA playoffs both Suns and Lakers had some tougher games than in semi-finals, as both teams finished the series with 4-2 victory against Portland TrailBlazers and Oklahoma City Thunder. Now fans believe that the encounter between Phoenix and LA Lakers will be a huge and exciting matchup.
The Lakers just qualified into Western Conference finals three times in a row now as they sweeped the Utah Jazz in the other western matchup. Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant claimed that it will be great to have 6 days rest before the conference finals against Phoenix. Los Angeles head coach Phil Jackson added that his team performed the very best in the last game in this series as Paul Gasol scored 33 points and 14 rebounds, while Bryant added 32 points.
In the last four years San Antonio beat Phoenix every single time in the playoffs, but now the Suns has sweeped the Spurs and they are only one step away to play in NBA finals once again since 1993.
Suns key player was veteran point guard Steve Nash without a doubt, as with a little exaggeration we can say he played with one eye only in the last match, after he took an inadvertent elbow from Tim Duncan in the third quarter. „I didn’t see anything, but I wanted to try if I can still play and help my team. Luckily it went well” – said Nash, who scored 20 points and 9 assists despite having a right swollen eye.
In the East, Orlando has sweeped both of his opponents so far, first they beat the Charlotte Bobcats in the first round and then the Atlanta Hawks in the second.
„It doesn’t mean anything that we sweeped both of our opponents, as Cleveland did the same thing last year and then we just beat them” – Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy announced. Magic’s is going to have a key matchup in Eastern Conference final with the winner of the Cleveland-Boston clash.
