Can Apple Chipset Lead to Banner Year for T-Mobile?

t mobile logo2 300x199 Can Apple Chipset Lead to Banner Year for T Mobile?Compared to other cell phone service carriers, T-Mobile has lagged behind a bit in recent years, and many attribute this to the fact that they have not carried iPhones. T-Mobile’s AWS bands have been the reason for this gaping void in the carrier’s handset roster, but if Apple does eventually support these bands, this could lead to a major turnaround in 2012.

T-Mobile head Philipp Humm stated that due to the evolution of chipsets in general, the chipset to be used by Apple’s iPhone and iPad sequels might just support T-Mobile’s AWS bands. Rumors from CNET are apparently agreeing with this prediction, and have speculated that it would be certain AWS bands will be supported by this year’s Apple chipset.

On the other hand, other news and blog sites have debunked the above rumors. According to 9to5Mac, T-Mobile scotched any rumors of total compatibility for the carrier’s bands being definite. The above statement made by T-Mobile Chief Technology Officer, Neville Ray is simply a case of counting one’s chickens before they hatch, added 9to5Mac’s report.

Provided Apple’s new A6 chipset would support T-Mobile’s AWS bands, then it can be inferred that the upcoming iPad 3 and iPhone 5 will be functional on T-Mobile’s network. However, nothing remains certain and that includes the supposed release date of these products.

The iPad 3, in particular, has been subject to many release date rumors, with some claiming it will be due as early as February while others projecting an early second quarter release.
