Cannes Film Festival kicks off with Russel Crowe’s Robin Hood

Following natural disasters and sharp debates the 63rd Cannes Film Festival has opened on Wednesday, which is going to present 19 films this year, after last years 22. Art director Thierry Frémaux told the press that they expect a quite strong list of films, reflecting a variety of quality movies from all around the world.

The world premier of the highly anticipated new Russel Crowe movie, Robin Hood was showcased for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival.

Once again reputed director Ridley Scott teamed up with Russel Crowe from Gladiator to present an epic story of the legend of Robin Hood, the way he outlawed himself in order to rob the rich and feed the poor. The premier of the movie will be this week in some regions of Europe and the United States and it’s going to fight with Iron Man 2 for the first spot in cinemas.

According to sources 19 movies are going to compete to get the festival’s top award,  the Palme d’Or including films like Oliver Stone’s Wall Street sequel, Doug Liman’s “Fair Game”, Mike Leigh’s “Another Year” and “Biutiful” directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu to name a few.

The Cannes Film Festival brings an annual revenue of EUR 200-250 million to France, and providing jobs for three thousand people.
