samsung logo2 300x99 CES 2012: Samsung Unveils 55 inch OLED TVEarly reports had been touting LG’s 55-inch OLED television as one of the products to watch in this year’s CES. However, their fellow South Korean manufacturer has a 55-inch TV of their own also on display at the yearly event held in Las Vegas.

To the end of hyping their giant-size TV set, Samsung’s strategy has been to emphasize the fascinating extras found in their unit. This is in contrast to LG, which is focusing on the brilliant quality of their TV’s picture, particularly its contrast ratio in excess of 100,000:1 and four-color pixel setup.

One of the most talked-about of these extras is the voice and face recognition available on this smart TV. The inclusion of an HD camera allows users to utilize the set as they would a webcam, but with the addition of the above features, it goes beyond the latter device’s simple capabilities.

Other features include a dual-core processor and a variety of different applications that can be used in a multitasking environment. For instance, there is a fitness application that should please the average gym rat, and there are also several games and multimedia apps to be found as well.

Although, Samsung has indeed been more focused on extras rather than picture, that’s not to say they haven’t done their part to hype their picture quality. According to Samsung, their TV set has 40% greater reproduction accuracy than the average LED television.

There is no word about the price of the TV, but it can be surmised that a television with so many features and 55-inch dimensions would be anything but affordable.
