Dramatic situation in Russia – Fire is coming to Moscow

Raging fires of forests and peat bogs are getting closer to Moscow. On Sunday, the elementreached Balashikha, 15 km  from the capital of Russia. The fires have killed at least 30people in Russia and burnt 550 thousand hectares of forests. The hundreds of new  fires broke out this Sunday including Voronezh and Kamchatka areas.

Authorities are considering the evacuation of children from the camps and vacation homes in Moscow  Oblast. According to the Ministry for Emergency Situations, 774 fires have been recorded with a total area of 128 thousand hectares. The most difficult situation is Woresnk, Riazansk, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Moscow, Tatarstan and Mordovia Oblasts.

ITAR-TASS Agency states that  the fire has spread out across 300 thousand. hectares of steppe and tundra. The most tragic situation is in Kamchatka. On this peninsula, surrounded by the waters of the Pacific Ocean, 76 thousand  hectares of forests burned in a short period of time.

The cause of fires are extreme heats prevailing since mid-June in central Russia. For six weeks the air temperature has not fallen below 30 Celsius degrees. Last week the temperature arose to 38-39 degrees in Moscow and its surrounding area.  In the coming weeks forecasts predict  40-41 degrees. The same weather will be in the other regions of European part of Russia.

“In this prevailing conditions, any slightest spark could cause a fire, even a cigarette butt thrown from the car window “ – warns Ministry of Emergencies and Disaster Relief. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that the fire has consumed 1257  houses so far. He made an appeal to federal and regional authorities to focus on rebuilding homes that were destroyed by fire. He assured that every family will receive compensation and a roof over their heads.
