Facebook Soon to Foray into Mobile Ad Networking
Facebook has started to consider venturing into mobile ad networking. Bloomberg correspondent, Brian Womack, reported that the social network is planning to push into mobile ad services come March of next year.
However, Womack also indicated that this might still be something that is more of an idea rather than a decision waiting to happen.
Facebook is planning to put out Sponsored Stories. It is a mobile advertising service centred on illustrating user interaction with brands onto the mobile Newsfeed of its patrons.
To some, this is an action that should have happened months ago. According to sources, Facebook did plan on making that foray into the mobile ad network earlier this year. However, it chose to shelve it instead for a later time.
If this should happen, Facebook will face off against Apple’s iAd, Google’s Admob and Millenial Media’s ad network. All of which had been making their rounds for quite some time now.
Facebook is the biggest social-networking site in the world. It is currently housing 800 million users under its virtual community. And, out of that number, a huge fraction has already started making their way to the network through mobile access.
With the fast proliferation and demand for mobile technologies, Facebook could potentially leg-up over its competition. Its app had been a commonplace feature in smartphones – whether of Apple or Google make – providing the network an advantage in an industry market valued at $630 million. Thus, making it the better option for advertisers to invest with compared to its competition.
