Nearly 5 millions users downloaded the new Skype internet telephone created for iPhone 3G, which provides opportunity for cheaper mobile phone calls and conversations, not only on Wi-Fi networks but on 3G mobile networks as well.

Before the software’s official end of May release, iPhone owners could enjoy the benefits of Skype only by connecting to shorter-range Wi-Fi networks. During the announcement of the new Skype version the company also stated that from next year users will have to pay for making Skype calls on 3G networks, which left many people disappointed.

Skype’s 560 million users particularly using the software because the conversations using Skype were free from the beginning.

The costs to be paid after calls are not known yet. According to Skype’s CEO, due to the  special developments carried out for 3G networks, they are forced to introduce fees, while on the Wi-Fi networks the service will remain free.

Using the service with the new fees, however will be still favourable compared to the competition and mobile calls per minute – underlined Russ Shaw, CEO of Skype’s mobile business.

Interests are overwhelming in all three most important sales territories: North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
