google nexus prime2 256x300 Galaxy Nexus – Formerly Nexus Prime and Motorola Droid Razr This WeekThe Galaxy Nexus smart phone and its rival Motorola Droid Razr will be released this Tuesday, SixOctober 18th. The Galaxy Nexus made by Samsung and sponsored by Google has been called the Nexus Prime in the press.

The Droid Razr is said to sport the following features and specifications: a dual core processor at 1GHz – not too surprising except that 1GHz doesn’t match the faster competitors, a 4.3 inch screen of the AMOLED variety – 4.3 inch is not vying for largest screen but is somewhat standard, 1 GB of RAM and a now seemingly standard 8 megapixel camera. The phone may come with an LTE antenna making it compatible with the high speed network offered by Verizon and also AT&T under a different name.

Thus far only Verizon has marketed Razr named phones so if this new entre is truly a Razr, it is a strong indication that it will be another Verizon-only product. That’s not to say that another carrier couldn’t pick it up and market it with a different name.

The Galaxy Nexus is due to pop up at exactly the same time.  The key differences between the Razr and the Nexus will be the processor speed and cameras. The Nexus will have 1.2GHz processors but only a 5 megapixel camera. The Nexus may also come with the new NFC technology from Google that enables the phone to act like a credit card.
