Gulf Oil Spill: Security measures weren’t kept

Filed under: Business,The Big Stories |

Two injured workers of the oil drilling platform that blew up in April in the Gulf of Mexico, stated on Thursday in the US Congress that the operating companies have breached a number of security measures.

The Deepwater Horizon oil platform exploded on the 20th of April then two days later it sank, causing the death of 11 workers. More than a hundred people rescued. A worker, Stephen Stone has announced in front of the US Congress: the operating companies didn’t spend enough money on security measures in order to gain a larger profit.

However, BP has already spent 930 million dollars to prevent further damages of the environment, they still don’t know yet whether  their latest attempt to plug the well, called „top kill” was successful or not.

„The ‘top kill’ operation in such depths has never been used and its success is still uncertain” – says the British oil company’s statement, published on Friday.

According to BP, this attempt can take up to a further 24-48 hours to finish and if it won’t succeed, then they already prepared an alternative solution that might do.
