HTC Sees Profit Drop due to Apple iPhone 4S and Samung Galaxy Nexus
Last year saw one of the most brutal competitions in the smartphone market. Apple released its newest iPhone iteration; Samsung did their homework with the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Nexus; others became the market casualties.
HTC, the Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer, was one of those who suffered by the circumstances that developed. The company reported its first profit drop within the last quarter of the previous year. Intense competition and the lack of any updates to its roster of products came as one of the few reasons to the decline.
Bloomberg reported that HTC lost 26% in revenues in Q4 of 2011. It was revealed that profits took a nose dive from $14.6 billion to $11 billion. In addition, The Taiwanese Company publicly conceded to Apple and Samsung as the current market leaders.
In spite of the lack of any visible exterior updates, the iPhone 4S still managed to pique the interest of the both Apple and non-Apple consumers. It appears that Siri, iOS 5, and the brand itself are enough reasons for many to get their hands Apple-filled.
On the other hand, Samsung saw one of its better years last 2011. For one, its Galaxy S2 became the highest selling smartphone prior to the holidays. Furthermore, the said phone will be having its personal dose of an Android update soon with the Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
With that said, HTC is rumoured to be releasing an Android 4.0 phone within the year. They are also planning on pushing out less phone models during the year in account for its intent on strengthening product advertising and developing updates for their current roster.
