iBooks 2: Apple Poised to Revolutionize Education
Apple’s iBooks application had been known in the past as a convenient way to read virtual books on a number of topics. Till now, these topics did not include those that are traditionally discussed in educational institutions. However, Apple’s new iBooks 2 update is set to bring education to its best-selling devices by including textbooks among its offerings.
Apple announced the update Thursday at a scheduled event at New York’s Guggenheim Museum and was quick to highlight the many advantages of the digital textbook. Representatives touted the virtual books’ rich interactive content which would allow users to take down notes, create glossary flash cards and outline key points as required.
In addition to these features, the textbooks would include feedback forms after each chapter, giving users a chance to rate their learning experience.
According to Apple worldwide marketing vice president, Philip Schiller, the company is making a timely move by having the free iBooks 2 update focus on education. He stressed that a lot of students are using iPads and with this new update, they can use their favorite electronic gadget for a greater purpose, thus facilitating the learning process and making it interactive.
However, he did not mention, whether iPads would be offered at a discounted price for students, professors and school officials alike.
This new update not only aims to introduce Apple’s unique technology to the field of education, but also hopes to make learning more affordable for both students and educators.
Unlike conventional textbooks sold at bookstores, the virtual textbooks sold through iBooks 2 carry price tags no higher than $14.99.
