Increasing number of single mothers in Germany
More and more children are growing up in Germany only with their mother or father around. German Family Ministry’s recently published statement shows: there is an increase in the number of employed single mothers, who raise their children alone.
The youngest member of the government, Family Affairs minister, Kristina Schroeder presented her report on Tuesday, which shows that in Germany every sixth child is growing up with only one parent by side.
Ten years ago only every seventh child has missed the care of the mother or father.
Nowadays more and more women becoming the one who keep the family, as after the husband lose his job many marriages run aground. This process is slower in the western part of the country, than in the former GDR, where more than 15 percent of women have to keep the family alone.
Kristina Schroeder pointed out, that despite the economic difficulties, it is essential to ensure social benefits, which is the only way to avoid significant proportion of the younger generation to face with poverty.
In these days, about 1 million 700 thousand minor receives government aid in Germany.
