Intel Showcases Gesture-controlled Ultrabooks at CES 2012
The recent Consumer Electronics Show saw Intel working out their gesture-controlled Ultrabooks showcasing tilt-sensors and touch-free credit card readers.
Mooley Eden, Intel PC Group General Manager and Vice President, was the speaker for the event. It was divulged that they are working to include these innovations into the succeeding line-up of Ultrabooks which he described as “more powerful”.
However, it was indicated that 2012 will see less-advanced Ultrabook models. Currently, they are working with their partners to produce better specs for monitors in their units for much lower prices.
The most innovative concept they presented involved new identity protection and anti-theft programme.
Intel is working to make credit card purchases more secure and convenient for consumers. Future Ultrabooks should allow credit card swiping which in turn deviates users from having to key in private information into other devices. Intel is looking at NFC technology as the key to this process.
Security measures include a one-credit-card-per-device stipulation. This prevents credit card thieves from using stolen cards on other devices.
Intel announced their “strategic alliance” with Nuance, a firm that specializes in speech recognition. It is also the same company credited for Apple’s Siri.
Moreover, Eden also indicated that live translation may become available in the future. However, he was quick to counter it by saying that the said concept is too advanced for the present technology.
