iPad 3 Release Date – Samsung, Sharp and LG Begin Component Shipments
Sharp, Samsung and LG have all begun shipping advanced displays for the next generation of the Apple iPad, as Foxconn gears up for a major assembly project in January 2012, according to the latest industry reports.
Rumor has it that the suppliers have so far shipped over 1 million display panels during the month of October, while a further 2 million are to be shipped before the end of November. As such, it is widely expected that the first examples of the completed iPad 3 will be around as early as January next year.
The iPad 3 has been widely rumored for quite some time as likely to boast a screen with double the resolution of the iPad 2, taking it up to retina-display level quality as current seen on the iPhone 4S. However, it has also been suggested that such ambitious plans are the very reason that the iPad 3 may have seen delays so far, as sourcing the required technology in line with reasonable affordability has presented Apple with a number of serious problems.
Despite what Apple may or may not have in store regarding the display of the iPad 3, the next generation of the world’s most popular tablet PC looks set to include the latest quad-core A6 processor, along with a smaller dock connector and thinner, lighter battery.
Meanwhile, there have been multiple reports surfacing regarding a sample 7.35 inch screen being considered by Apple, prompting huge talk of an iPad Mini in the pipeline. However, with no official word either way, this must of course be taken with the usual grain of salt and interpreted with due realism.
