ipad8 iPad 3 Rumour Update: Apple to Release a Slightly Thicker New iPad?The iPad 3 rumours have started piling up yet again with the year providing a good start for tablet products out in the market.

With ASUS and Amazon making a splash with their respective products, Apple is expected to release their latest iteration of the iPad line either this February or later on in March.

Nevertheless, rumours have skewed towards the thickness aspect of the tablet from its supposed release dates. With experts and sources implying that the new iPad will showcase LTE support, retina display and bigger battery, it could be possible that Apple may revert from its iPad 2’s selling point – tablet thinness.

It can be noted that Apple and Samsung have squared with each other as to who has a better or thinner device quite a few times.

In the smartphone area, Apple was able to claim victory via its iPhone 4 against the Samsung Galaxy S2. The UK Advertising Standards Authority ruled in favour of Apple after seeing its smartphone sport a uniform 9.3-millimeter thickness across its entire surface.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S2 – although including a glory point at 8.71-millimeter – lost because of a hump in its design resulting to 9.91 mm thickness.

However, Samsung takes the crown in the tablet front. Upon Apple’s official public announcement of the iPad 2, Samsung took the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to re-design it for a thinner form. Samsung wins by a slight offset with the Galaxy Tab 10.1’s 8.6mm in contrast to the iPad 2’s 8.8mm.

People are curious if Apple is indeed looking to have the iPad 3 come out soon as major competition have already started gaining ground.

Current market stats indicate that Amazon’s Kindle Fire is next in rank to Apple in terms of sales. With the Kindle Fire’s success equating in its ecosystem, Android platform, cheaper price and thicker design (11.4mm), it appears many are not quite particular with the thickness factor anymore.
