Laurent Blanc to replace coach Domenech after World Cup
Former class defender, Laurent Blanc is going to replace Raymond Domenech as the French national football team’s coach right after the World Cup. Blanc is going to leave Girondins Bordeaux to become the coach of the national team. The French National Football Association has declared on Thursday that Laurent Blanc will be officially announced as new coach after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
According to French daily sport gazette L’Equipe, Bordeaux will receive 1,5 million euros from the association as retention money for releasing the 44 years old trainer who still had one more year left from his contract at Bordeaux. It seems the club executives have changed their minds over Blanc, because previously club president Jean-Louis Triaud and Nicolas de Tavernost owner both objected to release Blanc for the French national team.
„An association can’t take actions and persuade our coach like that without facing consequences” – Triaud added yet on Monday.
Blanc, who was a member of the French national team that won World Cup in 1998 and European Championship in 2000, became the coach of Bordeaux in 2007 and last year he won the league title and French cup too with the team.
