Medicine to help losing weight

Thanks to an EU project – which examines reasons of obesity – a new medicine is under development which actually will help to lose weight.

In its 7th framework program, the European Union supports the international NeuroFAST project with 6 million euros, which project explores relations between nutrition, addiction and obesity.  Researchers examine those processes which can have an influence on weight and the long-term aim is definitely to development such secure medical intervention for the pharmaceutical industry which eventually helps people to lose weight.

13 teams of seven states – United Kingdom, Holland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Sweden – are participating in the NeuroFAST project.

Internationally acclaimed experts of neuroscience, endocrinology, genetics, molecular biology, psychology and epidemiology are participating in the five-year multidisciplinary program. NeuroFAST researches nutrition regulation’s neurobiological processes and certain eating disorders’ from a socio-psychological perspective and in particular the role of stress an addiction. Its main objective to find out the causes and processes of excessive food input which often leads to obesity in economically developed countries.

NeuroFAST has a capital importance in economically developed societies as overweight an obesity becoming an increasing problem there.
