Michael Jackson, Elvis, Elizabeth Taylor Live on In Income
It may well have been over two years since the King of Pop Michael Jackson’s tragic passing at the age of 50, but the superstar’s earning power is showing no signs of giving up any time soon. For the second year in a row now, Michael Jackson has topped the annual top-earning dead celebrity rich-list, raking in no less than $170 million over the past 12 months alone through music sales and his considerable stake in Sony/ATV.
While this is certainly a big drop from the $275 million he earned in the 12 month before, it is still more than enough to take the number two spot for the highest earning act over the past 12 months, dead or alive, succumbing only to U2.
In total, the 15 celebrities on this year’s list have earned a whopping $366 million combined between October last year and this, which once again serves as conclusive proof that death does not spell the end for the biggest names.
The Cirque du Soleil show ‘Viva Elvis’ helped Mr. Presley take the silver medal in the list for this year, topping out at $55 million earned. While his music and movies will of course have played a part, a long running Vegas Show where ticket prices often top $175 cannot help but account for a huge proportion.
Elizabeth Taylor has also joined the list, having passed away in March and subsequently earned approximately $12 million, most of which is thought to have come from her incredibly popular White Diamonds perfume.
