New Apple Products to Feature LTE?

iphone5ph21 New Apple Products to Feature LTE?Talk has been rife about potential release dates for Apple’s new electronic devices for 2012. In particular, the iPad 3 has had several speculated release dates so far, with a slew of rumors regarding its features.

However, none of them may be more intriguing than Bloomberg’s report that both iPad and iPhone follow-ups shall feature long-term evolution or LTE technology.

Additionally, Bloomberg stated that the iPad 3 is set to be released in March 2012.

The LTE revolution promises faster connection speed in comparison to other smartphones equipped with 3G and HSPA+. Phones with LTE have tested for a peak download speed of 15 to 20 Mbps, which is almost twice as fast as the competition.

Another benefit of LTE would be the improved quality of streaming media. However, LTE is not perfect, as there are some issues with phones that feature this technology. Short battery lifespan is the main complaint. Several Android phones with LTE have gotten flak for “poor battery life” with LTE turned on. This is in contrast to other connectivity standards where the phone’s batteries do not drain as easily.

With all that in mind, it can be inferred that the iPad 3 and iPhone 5’s batteries may be heavier than their predecessors. This would make the units heavier and less convenient, and with “less is more” the continuing theme in terms of device size, the increased weight is another potential issue for many experts and consumers.

Other phones with LTE, such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, are known to be chunkier and heavier than their HSPA counterparts.
