Nokia Confirms Lumia 900 U.S. Launch in March
A report from a Nokia Developer website is stating that the Lumia 900 Windows Phone with LTE (Long-Term Evolution) will be released to US customers in March.
The report stated that the handset shall be an exclusive for AT&T customers and emphasized the capabilities of the carrier’s LTE network. Aside from tapping into AT&T’s 4G LTE, the Lumia 900 also features an 800 x 400 4.3-inch AMOLED screen, Windows Phone Mango interface and a 1.4 GHz CPU.
The announcement of a March release date comes just some time after neither Nokia nor Microsoft would give a comment as to the specifics of the phone’s targeted release.
Many analysts believe that the Lumia 900 can serve as a potential savior for both Nokia and Microsoft. The Finnish cell phone manufacturer has seen its U.S. market share take a huge hit in recent years, while the Windows Phone has struggled against both iOS and Android-equipped phones alike.
Although not expected to topple smartphone market leaders such as the iPhone, the Lumia 900 comes at a time when LTE is gaining prevalence as a network standard. This makes it a very timely release for 2012, but whether it could really improve fortunes for Nokia and the Windows Phone in general remains to be seen.
The Lumia 900 is not the only device with 4G LTE that will be making its debut this year. The HTC Titan II is another phone that figures in AT&T’s plans in 2012, highlighting the carrier’s commitment to spreading the gospel of LTE.
