Nokia Lumia 900 to Be Introduced by Other US Carriers?
The Nokia Lumia 900 was a shining star at the CES 2012 held last week in Las Vegas, having earned Best Smartphone honors from leading tech site CNET.
It wasn’t just CNET being impressed with the phone, as almost everyone else present at the CES seemed to have a good word ready for the Finnish telecommunication company’s latest Windows Phone. The only people seemingly disappointed with the Lumia 900, appeared to be most American consumers not on AT&T.
While it’s a well-known fact that the Lumia 900 will be launched solely for AT&T customers, a rumor from a source close to Microsoft is stating that there may be other cell phone service carriers offering the handset in the future.
According to the source, AT&T’s right to exclusively carry the phone may not last that long. Theirs is apparently a timed privilege that is speculated to expire 45 days from the Lumia 900’s March 18 launch date. So far, the only network identified by the source as a potential second carrier for the 900 is T-Mobile. Nothing definite has been reported about any other networks.
One of the main features of the Nokia Lumia 900 is the 12-megapixel camera, which is a huge improvement over its 8-megapixel predecessor. This is something for the mobile phone shutterbug to look forward to, but then again, the upcoming HTC Titan II is said to be equipped with an even better 16-MP camera.
Both Windows Phones are expected to compete for consumers’ attention once they eventually become available, and will be up against tough competition from the iPhone 4S and several Android-powered devices.
