nokia lumia 800 Nokia Set to Unveil Lumia 900 at CES 2012After garnering mostly positive reviews with the Lumia 800, Nokia is hoping to successfully penetrate the American cellular phone market with its sequel, tentatively billed as the Lumia 900. This second Windows Phone is expected to be launched at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, to be held next week in Las Vegas, NV.

According to sources, the upcoming release is hardly different from the Lumia 800, except for the screen. Unlike the previous model, the Lumia 900’s AMOLED screen measures at 4.3”, a 0.6” increase from its predecessor’s screen size. This is a bit of a disappointment for consumers expecting a significant overhaul, considering Nokia’s “Amazing Everyday” marketing campaign.

Nonetheless, this will be the first Nokia Windows Phone released in the United States.  The Lumia 800, billed by Nokia CEO Stephen Elop as the first of its kind, has not been released stateside. Due to this, Nokia is aggressively positioning their follow-up to the American market, a market considered extremely important in the one-time dominant cell phone maker’s plans for a strong comeback. Sales of Nokia phones have been declining in recent years, largely due to the emergence of the Apple iPhone and other strong offerings by competing manufacturers.

The design of the Microsoft Windows interface is largely based on tiles, which serve as a kick-off point for several applications. Due to this, many consider Windows Phones as a perfect starter handset for consumers who have yet to use a smartphone.

The Lumia 900 is expected to be sold in the US as Nokia Ace, and also features the Windows Phone Mango platform, an eight-megapixel camera and a 1.4 GHz processor.
