Nokia Set to Unveil Their First Windows Smartphone
When the chief executive of Nokia Corp. takes the stage on Wednesday this week at the company’s upcoming annual conference in London, the eyes of the world will be well and truly focused on the device in his hand.
Earlier this year, Stephen Elop made the bold claim that he was to begin turning around the struggling brand, with the first step being the phasing out of their trademark Symbian OS for Smartphones, which had been criticized as dated and cumbersome at best. True to his word, Elop then struck up a billion dollar deal to replace the OS with software from his former employer, Microsoft Corp.
As such, the world is now expecting to get its very first look at Nokia’s first Windows Smartphone at the even tomorrow.
The upcoming conference is perhaps Nokia’s biggest opportunity to show both consumers and investors how quickly they are able to roll with the punches and implement confident new Smartphone strategies, according to key analysts. It has also been pointed out that with little time remaining before the holiday selling season, Nokia will have their work cut out in getting sufficient firepower onto the shelves in order to take their own piece of a hugely lucrative pie.
Nokia has lost no less than 66% of its overall market value since the iPhone was launched by Apple back in 2007, with a further profit warning being issued this May following a dramatic cut in sales attributed to cheaper Android Smartphones in Europe.
