BP has started to implement the plan which aims to plug the deep-sea oil well, called Deepwater Horizon that started to leak more than one month ago in the Mexican Gulf – reported Ken Salazar, US interior secretary.

Salazar added, that he doesn’t know how long this operation, however experts stated: the complex procedure can take up to two days. BP stated, that the action has begun at 2 pm in the afternoon. According to the company’s latest report there is only 60-70 percent chance that the operation will be successful, as they never implemented such action before in 1500 meters deep, unexpected obstacles may occur, therefore there is no guarentee for success.

The way they want to stop leakage is that are going to shot heavy mud into the damaged leaking structure. The liquid which has 2 times bigger density than water, should slow down and halt the rising flow of crude oil and gas then they are goingto cement the five floor high structure.

On the same day, US president Barack Obama has confirmed in California: the Government won’t rest until they stop the oil spill, the contamination is completely harvested and the environment is restored. Obama also added: it’s not guaranteed that BP’s efforts to stop the leakage will be successful. If the oil company can implement its plan, then the oil leakage can be substantially reduced or even stopped, he said. Obama noted: the tragedy directs attention that the country needs to find alternative energy resources.

Following consultations with government experts, the US coast guard gave permission to BP on Wednesday morning to implements its plan in order to stop the oil leakage.

According to Wednesday’s estimations till now 7 million gallons (26.5 million liters) of crude oil spilled into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
