Pakistan bans access to YouTube
Pakistan has banned access to YouTube for an indefinite period of time. Pakistani authorities blocked the leading video-sharing website to protect people from “blasphemous content”.
The Pakistani Telecommunications Authority first instructed local internet service providers to block Facebook’s content and shortly after they did the same with YouTube too.
The country decided to take these steps since there is an online competition going on in the social media about creating drawings of Mohamed prophet, however in the Islam religion it is forbidden to make a portrait of him and also many people think it’s a blasphemy. Even there were some demonstration recently call upon the Facebook group which started the whole competition.
On the other hand, YouTube was already banned once in Pakistan back in 2007 as reportedly some users shared outrageous videos connected with the Islam religion.
The media monitoring authority has declared that they wanted to limit access to certain contents on YouTube, but those harmful contents started to appear over and over again, so they decided to block it completely.
“We would be glad if the leaders of both parties would contact us in order to resolve this problem as soon as it possible” – said the authority.
Previously Wikipedia and Flickr were not accessible as well in Pakistan, however the authority’s spokesman said, it was because of some technical reasons.
There may be some technical issues behind the ban: YouTube and Facebook take up nearly a quarter of Pakistan’s total internet traffic. ISP providers have banned Blackberry smartphones’ internet access too for a short period of time.
In Pakistan there’s an active debate about the issues of Islam and freedom of speech. Although Pakistan is an ally of the United States, due to the growing anti-American sentiment, the US authorities probably will react carefully, despite the fact that the US criticize those countries from time to time who are restricting freedom of speech.

if freedom of speech hurts the feelings of, not the people but the nations then we dont need this type of freedom. if freedom of speech means to abuse the values of any religion we dont need this type of freedom if this type of freedom is neceesary for the world then dont blame the people who belive in the use of freedom of weapons

“Freedom of Speech” is just that, no, “If, Buts nor Maybes”. Pusillanimous broadcasters (BBC), editors, reporters or commentators who insist on the “But” word to “save the feelings” of those who are members of the Islamic Death Cult do treachery to our hard earned freedoms. If a living person is slandered then the victim has recourse to the law but to say that ideas should be protected from criticism is a very slippery slope to stand on. If Big Mo’s Death Cult should be protected, then why not the Nazis or their Socialist opposite numbers, all three are equally dangerous. As it is, Death Cult countries outnumber secular ones and have hijacked the Universal Declaration Of Human Rights to protect their creed from scrutiny with hardly a peep of protest from the previous government. In passing, I don’t have much hope that the current government will reject these changes. I commend Facebook and YouTube for standing up to the constant threats of violence. The artist who draws a single cartoon may be traced and killed by Death Cult members but ten thousand artists are more difficult. I do hope the Draw a Mo Cartoon becomes an annual event and that next year there will be double (or ten times) the contributors. I say again “Freedom of speech” has no “Buts”, (within the law of course).

1st of all facebook can go sod off if it thinks that their freedom of speech can hurt other peoples feelings. When the same thing is done against jews then people r given prison sentences. What with the hypocrisy of these people? … time and time again these people have proven that their double standard hypocrisy is open and yet they dont have any shame or guilt for their outrageous and disgusting acts.
FACEBOOK CAN GO TO HELL AND TAKE MOLLY NORRIS WITH THEM … IF ALL THE MUSLIM COUNTRIES BAN FACEBOOK THEN FACEBOOK WILL B JUST ANOTHER WEBSITE AND WILL BEG US TO UNBAN THEM!!!
youtube should not be block becouse studets are facing and will face alote of deficulties if youtube ramain block. why not blocking sexy sites like redube,youporne and many more instead blocking youtube.

I wonder why muslims create such a big issue of unreasonable things so much rather than giving attention to their main problem that are a lot,according to me they’re over reacting now,SHIT that I’m living in Pakistan and can’t access to Youtube or Facebook,Muslims suck badly!
