Pamela Anderson rescues abandoned dogs in New Orleans

Filed under: Entertainment,The Big Stories |

Pamela has always been a fan of animals. Last Monday she was seen helping to rescue abandoned dogs in New Orleans, Louisiana following the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. About 50 neglected dogs were prepared for a pet adoption program in Virginia, but two of them were adopted by Pam herself.

“My son was hoping we could take all 50,” Anderson said. She took two small brown dogs identified by shelter officials as Chihuahua mixes. Anderson named them Gina Lollobrigida and Brigitte Bardot in honor of two famous actresses.

After adopting two dogs of her own, Pamela and her new puppies posed for pictures as she spoke with press. Anderson said that she took part in this project to draw attention to a program which deals with an overflow of neglected pets since the BP oil spill. Pamela told, “Everywhere you go, there are far more dogs than good homes, but the crisis in Louisiana is prompting people to open their hearts and doors to animals in trouble.”

Bridgette Verdin of the Humane Society of Louisiana said that the spill, which has caused people to lose their jobs and income in southeastern Louisiana, made the existing animal adoption problems worse. Several southeastern Louisiana animal shelters have reported a spike in the number of animals brought in since the drilling rig explosion.
