Pantech and Samsung to Fill Gap in Verizon’s Mid-Range LTE Lineup
Pantech’s first Verizon LTE Smartphone and Samsung’s second LTE Android phone for the same network were both leaked on Sunday, sending the rumor mill into the usual frenzy.
The Pantech Breakout is expected to be arriving with a 4 inch WVGA touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, modest 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. As it stands, the device would occupy a rather exclusive mid-range spot in the growing LTE market of Verizon.
Furthermore, another mid-range Android Smartphone with LTE capability is rumored to be joining the Verizon ranks later this year – this time from Korean giant Samsung. According to the leaks, the Samsung Illusion will be another LTE device, featuring a 1GHz processor and a similar 5 megapixel camera.
Verizon have already indicated their strong desire to focus on and expand their LTE lineup, therefore it seems more than likely that they will be committed to filling the gaps in the low to mid-range categories.
Early estimates have set the prices of the two new devices around or below the $200 mark, which would indeed offer large-scale appeal to those unable to stretch to the top end devices.
With regard to release dates, bloggers are speculating that both will officially hit the shelves later this month, based on the content of a leaked Verizon roadmap that hit the web during August.
