Ryanair may face with a big fine worth a total of 3 million euros, if the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) can prove that Europe’s largest low-cost airline violated rules and missed to help passengers whom forced to stay in Ciampino airport due to the closure of air space caused by the Icelandic volcanish ash.
According to Italian newspaper, La Repubblica’s information in the middle of April Ryanair didn’t ensure about accomodation and provision for 178 passengers (children, families and olds) whom had to stay in the airport. Sources say that ENAC and the Italian civil protection had to help out the passengers.
Ryanair spokesman commented on the news as “it’s fully nonsense”, adding that Ryanair has observed the EU rules and even received praise from the European Union for their actions.
The low-cost carrier didn’t declare on the case further. Decision is expected to be made in the near future.
