galaxy nexus 295x300 Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G New Retail Price Set for $179Last month, we saw the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G become the first-ever smartphone to feature the latest Android operating system, the Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Unlike other smartphones released with older Android versions such as Gingerbread (2.3) out of the box, the Nexus 4G actually shipped with Android 4.0. This made it a big hit right out of the gates and a major contributor to Samsung’s success in the past year.

It hasn’t been more than a month and a week since its release, but would-be buyers should be in for a treat. Verizon Wireless has announced that they shall be reducing the retail price of the Galaxy Nexus 4G to $179, a very inexpensive price for such a high-end phone.

The Galaxy Nexus 4G boasts of a ‘hot rod’ power source – the 1.2 GHz dual core Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 processor, augmented by a PowerVR SGX540 chip. The phone’s 32 GB internal storage is the largest available when it comes to 4G LTE handsets.

The 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display is capable of 720 x 1280 resolution (with 315.80 pixels per inch), combining screen size and fantastic resolution in one awesome package. The only drawback, perhaps, is the 5.0-megapixel rear camera, as several other phones deliver more in that category.

According to RootMetrics, Verizon is the fastest network for LTE connectivity. A recent test showed Verizon well ahead of the competition, which should make the Galaxy Nexus 4G and other LTE smartphones even more attractive to new customers.
