Samsung Galaxy Nexus Added to Growing Fall Smartphone Arsenal
The upcoming autumn lineup of next generation Smartphones was perhaps given its biggest boost of all by the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which is set to be the very first device in the world to carry the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating systems. Pegged as a ‘pure Google’ Smartphone, the new Nexus could be described essentially as a larger version of the Samsung Galaxy S2 with multiple radios to allow global usage.
If the name has any readers confused, this is indeed the device that had previously been leaked under the name of the Nexus Prime and the Droid Prime. As had been previously suggested, the epic device is set to launch on the Verizon network as early as November 10th.
The size of the Super AMOLED touchscreen has been boosted up to 4.65 inches and the processor is certainly no shrinking violet, taking the form or a 1.2GHz dual core chip. Other features include 1GB of dedicated RAM, 5 megapixel camera and compatibility with 4G LTR and HSPA+.
Furthermore, the pure-Google Ice Cream Sandwich users have been told by Google that they will be the very first to receive software and application updates as soon as they are available – but the again who else would be first in line??
Measuring in at 8.94mm thick, the Galaxy Nexus is 1.84mm larger than the Droid Razr, thought has to be said that this is really negligible with devices of such a sleek overall profile.
While Google has set up a dedicated notification page for the upcoming device, no official detail has yet been provided regarding release dates, carriers or pricing, though early November has been pegged as the most likely time for the all important public launch.
