Seven spanish airports closed as volcanic ash approaches
Numerous spanish airports closed their gates today because of the danger of volcanis ash, spokesman reported.
Terminals in Badajoz and Jerez as well as Tenerife, La Palma and La Gomer airports are closed and it’s still uncertain how long the current lockdown will lasts.
In the last couple of days airports in the Iberian peninsual already faced problems managing air traffic due to volcanic ash, however back then wasn’t necessary to close any of the air gates.
Airport controllers have limited the airspace level for security reasons in the range of 6,000 – 10, 000 meters. Due to this limitation air traffic has been decreased lately by a quarter rate above Sevilla, Madrid and Barcelona.
