Sprint employees have been officially banned by managers from making any comments regarding rumors that the next generation of the iPhone will be arriving on the network in the not so distant future, according to a memo obtained by the media. If the document is to be believed, the speculative autumn release of the iPhone 5 on the Sprint network may indeed hold more water than ever before.
Needless to say, the latest rumor will undoubtedly have an impact on the carrier’s short term sales of other devices across the board, as thousands will likely choose to sit on their cash and await the arrival of the iPhone 5 in advance of the holiday buying season. Furthermore, the fact that the memo has been responded to with ‘no comment’ rather than a denial has been taken as almost concrete confirmation by many observers.
The memo itself is reported to have stated that Sprint employees talking to friends and family members need to ensure at all times that they do not directly mention the iPhone or respond to comments. Staff have been instead informed to state that they have indeed heard the rumors but know nothing as yet.
Of course, Apple stand to enjoy a rather staggering level of success with or without Sprint factored into their plans, as even without the Sprint deal the manufacturer is still predicted to increase shipments in the second half of 2011 by 55%, while overall growth for 2011 is estimated at 81% over last year.
