UN Security Council accepts tight sanctions against Iran
On Wednesday the UN Security Council has accepted new sanctions against Iran, among the 15 member states Turkey and Brazil voted against the sanctions while Lebanon abstained from it. The new sanctions are punishing Iran’s nuclear program as the Western states believe that Iran is producing nuclear weapons under the guise of its scientific program.
Before the voting, the United States, Russia and France have rejected a proposal, that the Islamic republic would change a part of its uranium resources for heating elements – diplomatic sources said. Washington, Moscow and Paris rejected a proposal from Turkey and Brazil – that would oblige Iran to exchange some part of its uranium resources for heating elements – saying after the exchange, Iran would still have enough material to start on its new project, uranium enrichment.
On Tuesday, US foreign minister Hillary Clinton declared that the new sanctions against Iran will be much tighter. She didn’t want to enter predictions about the UN Security Council voting, however US defense minister, Robert Gates stated that the decision will be made which will open the way for the United States and its allies to put the sanctions in place against Iran.
However, the sanctions will be tighter but they still doesn’t affect Iranian economy and staying away from oil embargo – according to AP news agency.
