Verizon Wireless Sticks to ‘LTE Only’ Future Smartphones, Tablets
Verizon Wireless is going for an all LTE future as it has recently demanded to embed full LTE support in present and upcoming devices from all manufacturers.
Non-PTT smartphones, tablets and netbooks among others are all expected to get the LTE treatment should they plan to batch for the carrier’s support.
Push-To-Talk devices are pardoned as they are expected to run exclusively on Verizon’s 3G network. However, it should be noted that they will also be shifted onto the 4G platform soon enough as Verizon is set to complete its LTE infrastructure by 2013.
The final entrant in the non-PTT devices to get Verizon support will be RIM’s Blackberry Curve 9730 which has a 3G-only connectivity to go about. The recent imposition could provide a huge deal of discomfort for the said phone manufacturer as it has yet to come out with an LTE-capable Blackberry variant.
It can also be noted that the biggest selling phone from the carrier is of the Cupertino-based firm’s make. With Apple still keeping mum about anything concerning its upcoming instalment in the iPhone series, this could proffer a good lead to go from regarding the mysterious phone. After all, Verizon would not want to risk losing one of its biggest drawers in the process.
The industry is looking at LTE technology as the next step in communication innovation. It offers faster data access and trafficking to client devices from carrier networks and vice versa.
