Volcanic ash force to close Dutch and UK airports

Today from 6 am till 2 pm Dutch airports such as Amsterdam Schiphol and Rotterdam are closed due to once again high density concentration of volcanic ash has approached the territory.

The Dutch authorities made the decision after consulting with the weather forecast service. However, other Dutch airpots are operating. The Icelandic volcanic ash is causing problems in flight traffic since mid April.

Heathrow and Gatwick, top UK airports had to be closed today as due to the fear of volcanic ash may cause chaos in air travel and damage jet engines which can lead to crashes.

Several Irish and Northern Irish airports are closed at this moment too, while other airports in central England are operating or ready to reopen.

Since the middle of April several European airports were partially closed as high density volcanic ash got into the atmosphere causing the biggest shutdown of the European airspace in the last 50 years.
